1851-07-10: "Orphans' Court sale," Daily Morning Post, [p. 2] (Newspapers.com 86645270): ". . . situate in the Third Ward of the City of Allegheny, in said county, and known in an additional plan of lots laid out by Robert S. Cassett, in the Third Ward of said City, and on ground adjoining said Ward in Reserve township, as Lot No. 4, and bounded and described as follows, to wit: Beginning on James street, at a corner of Lot No. 3 in said additional plan . . . ."

1859-02-01: "Terrible affair!," Pittsburgh Post, [p. 3] (Newspapers.com 88172305): "We are indebted to David L. Smith, Esq., of Allegheny City, for particulars of a heart-rending occurrence which took place in Reserve township, at a late hour last night. ¶ During the winter a family named Rogers have resided in a frame house in Reserve township, at the head of James street, just over the city line, adjoining the Third Ward."

1867-07-12: "Meeting of the Allegheny Councils," Daily Commercial, [p. 4] (Newspapers.com 85264018): "Mr. Drennan offered the following resolution: ¶ Resolved, That the Committee on Gas be directed to have lamp posts and lamps placed at the following places in the Third Ward: Corner of Hemlock and Esplanade streets; corner of Hemlock and James streets; corner of North Avenue and Middle street; corner of North Avenue and East street; corner of Third and Middle streets; corner of East street and the line dividing the Third and Seventh Wards; corner of Third street and East Lane; corner of Third street and Middle alley; corner of Chestnut street and Long alley; corner of Chestnut and Pike streets; corner of Perry street and Spring alley; corner of Green street and Spring alley; corner of East Lane and Perry streets; corner of West and First streets."

1869-02-18: Source:Ordinance-1869-changing-names: ". . . that the name of Pitt alley, from Raspberry alley to James street, be changed to Tate alley."

1869-03-12: Source:Allegheny-councils-1869-03-12: "In the matter of placing iron culverts each side of James street, at the intersection with North avenue, it is the opinion of the Committee that the difficulty at that point will be obviated when the sewer is completed. ¶ In reference to the changing of the names of Butler street to Ohio street, Ridge street to Ridge avenue, and Pitt alley from James street to Raspberry alley to Tate alley, ordinances accompany this report authorizing the same."

1871-04-27: Source:Ordinance-1871-allegheny-duplicated: "James street, 3d ward, to West street. ¶ . . . ¶ Franklin street, Herr's Island, to James street."
