1788: Laid out as Strawberry Lane, from Ferry Lane (Beaver Avenue) to Pasture Lane (Irwin Avenue), in the "Reserve Tract of Land Opposite Pittsburgh" (Source:Reserve-tract). Not to be confused with Island Lane, which became Columbus Avenue.

- "Streets and sewers," Pittsburgh Daily Post, [p. 3] (Newspapers.com 86408137): "A remonstrance was presented to the proposed route of a sewer on Middle street, but owing to the fact that the route has already been changed in an ordinance now before Councils, the paper was filed, as was a petition asking that the name of Strawberry lane be changed to Island avenue."
