Melville Way

From Pittsburgh Streets

Not to be confused with Millvale Avenue.

Melville Way
Neighborhood Lower Lawrenceville
Mulberry Alley (until 1881)
Melville Alley (1881–1914)

This alley appears in the 1872 Hopkins atlas as Mulberry Alley[1] (not to be confused with modern Mulberry Way to the southeast).

It was renamed Melville Alley by a city ordinance in 1881 to fix the confusion with Mulberry Alley in the Strip District (today Mulberry Way), which was extended into Lawrenceville by the same ordinance.[2]

It became Melville Way in 1914, when another ordinance changed all alleys in Pittsburgh to ways.[3]
