Devonshire Road

From Pittsburgh Streets
Devonshire Road
Neighborhood Squirrel Hill North
Origin of name Its location across Fifth Avenue from Devonshire Street

Devonshire Road was accepted as a city street by an ordinance passed by City Council on October 24, 1927.[1] It is named for its location across Fifth Avenue from Devonshire Street.

At the next City Council meeting a week later, a strongly worded letter from the Department of City Planning was presented, saying that the City Planning Commission had previously disapproved the plan that laid out the street, and complaining that Council had passed the acceptance ordinance before the Planning Commission had had time to consider it. The Planning Commission unanimously disapproved the acceptance ordinance on October 26, but by then it was too late, as it had already been passed by Council.[2]
