Beech Street (until 1907)
Origin of name Theodore Beach

This avenue was laid out as Beech Street in 1889 in a plan of lots by Christ Claeren, Theodore Beach, and John Wirth; it was named for the second of these men, with a spelling change.[1] It was renamed Duart Avenue by a West Liberty Borough ordinance in 1907.[2] West Liberty Borough was annexed by Pittsburgh in 1908,[3] and the following year a Pittsburgh city ordinance confirmed the name Duart Avenue.[4]
