The {{documentation}} template is used to provide documentation for a template.

At the end of the template source, add the following snippet:

<noinclude>{{documentation}}</noinclude>

For a newly created template, this will create a redlink pointing to the documentation subpage, which you can then edit.

By default this will include the documentation associated with the page the {{documentation}} template is transcluded in (for example, using {{documentation}} in Template:Book will show the content from Template:Book/doc). If you would like to show the documentation for a different page, you can specify it using the page parameter, e.g., {{documentation|page=Template:Add-punc}}.
