J. A. West, Realty Man And Builder

James A. West, 74, real estate operator who played a large part in the development of Squirrel Hill, South Hills and Wilkinsburg, died last night in West Penn Hospital.

He was associated with his two sons, C. Arthur and Franklin A. West, in the West Realty Co., Forward Ave.

Born in Conneautville, Pa., he went into business with his father, Chester West, with a hardware and building supply store in Beechview in 1902.

After World War I, he moved into Squirrel Hill and Wilkinsburg and built the Black Ridge and Country Club Heights developments among others.

Mr. West was a member of the Beechview Methodist Church, which he built, and the Asbury Methodist Church.

He will be buried after services at 1:30 p. m. Friday in the T. D. Turner Funeral Home, 729 Wallace Ave., Wilkinsburg.

Besides his two sons, Mr. West leaves his wife, Mrs. Daisy Lawrence West, 1031 Black Ridge Rd; two daughters, Mrs. W. S. Gearhart and Mrs. J. R. Donaghue, and a sister, Ada W. Collins, Fairfield, Cal.
