A PERFECT TORRENT OF NEW BILLS
Local Option Suffers Another Defeat.
SENATE.

Special to the Post.]

Harrisburg, Feb. 24, 1873.

New Bills.

The following bills were introduced:

By Mr. GRAHAM—Extending the law authorizing the construction of sewers in Allegheny city to the borough of Sharpsburgh.

By Mr. DELAMETER—To charter the Amondale Railroad Company of Crawford county to connect with city railroads.

United States Seanatorship.

Mr. McCLURE endeavored to have his resolution of instruction to Congress amended by having the United States Senator elected by the people; giving as a reason the conspicuous position of the State, and the fact that her hands are now so clean.

The amendment was lost.

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
New Bills.

The following bills were introduced:

By Mr. YOUNG—To incorporate the Pittsburgh Iron, Coal and Steel Company, with Alexander Chambers, Robt. Woods, Thamas [sic] H. Marshall and other corporators.

By Mr. SAMPLE—To repeal the supplement to the charter of the National Deposit Company, Passed February 1870.

By Mr. RAMSEY—To authorize the School Directors of the Eleventh ward, Pittsburgh, to sell real estate containing a special warrant clause.

Also to authorize the Methodist Episcopal Church of Birmingham to sell real estate.

By Mr. WAINWRIGHT—To extend to the East End Life Insurance Company and Trust Company the supplement to the Arsenal Bank.

By Mr. McCORMICK—To incorporate the Farmers and Mechanics Land Association of Pittsburgh.

Also, a supplement to the Penn Avenue Building and Loan Association of Pittsburgh.

By Mr. MORRIS—An act authorizing corporations organized under the general laws to borrow money.

By Mr. Smith—To incorporate the Consolidated Company of Fayette county, with E. C. Pechin and others corporators.

Also authorized the School Directors of Fayette city to levy a per capita tax to build a school.

He also presented a petition of citizens of Fayette county to prevent the removal of the supporting columns of the coal mines in said county.

By Mr. BALANTINE [sic]—To vacate Coral street in the city of Pittsburgh.

The act providing for the election of a State Treasurer was reported with a negative recommendation.

Another Defeat for Local Option.

The act supplementary of the Local Option law as far as the same relates to Allegheny, being on the Speaker's table, he was about to refer the same to the Committee on Vice and Immorality, whereupon—

Mr. BALLANTINE moved to suspend the rules and refer the bill to the Judiciary Committee.

Mr. JOSEPHS objected.

On division there were thirty-seven for the motion and twenty-nine against a standing vote. Lost, for want of a two-third vote.

There was no call for the yeas and nays, so there is no person on the record. This is a virtual defeat of the bill, as its reference to the Committee on Vice and Immorality was supported by the liquor men.
