THE GAZETTE TIMES.

Negotiations have been concluded whereby The Pittsburgh Times and The Pittsburgh Gazette are consolidated, and hereafter will appear as one publication. Today marks the last issues of these two newspapers as The Times and The Gazette. Tomorrow the consolidated paper will appear as The Gazette Times.

It is confidently expected The Gazette Times will meet with a cordial reception, not alone from the large clienteles which have so loyally and enthusiastically supported the two publications during the years they have been conducted as separate newspapers, but also from the general public.

Every effort will be put forth to merit such a reception. The Gazette Times will present to its readers the best and most popular features that have characterized The Times and The Gazette, and to these will be added other and important features, some of them well known and always entertaining, but which have been missed of late by those who were ever on the look-out for them.

Betterment will be the watchword from the very outset of the consolidated publication. The fact that a splendid newspaper is certain to result from the joint efforts of a staff embracing the best and brightest of the writers who have made The Times and The Gazette the best two newspapers in Western Pennsylvania, is not enough.

Nothing will be overlooked that can add to the brightness of the consolidated paper; new and entertaining features will be constantly sought; reliability will be the pre-eminent feature; the news of the day is to be presented in the brightest, most concise and pleasing form; the editorial columns will be up to date, dealing with questions of the day in an intelligent, safe and sane manner.

The purpose is to make The Gazette Times one of the great papers, not only of Western Pennsylvania but of the nation, and to that end nothing will be passed by that can in any manner enhance the popularity that both The Times and The Gazette have enjoyed. It is generally agreed on the part of the public that these two papers have been the leaders in the local newspaper field. Consolidation means the creation of a great leader—a newspaper that Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania can be proud of.
