"Fifth avenue's name will not be changed: Beechwood boulevard is to be called William Pitt boulevard." Pittsburgh Post, Jan. 22, 1910, p. 14. Newspapers.com 93557559.
No change will be made in the name of Fifth avenue as requested by the Daughters of the American Revolution. The name "Washington avenue," which they suggested, is to be given to a section of the Beechwood boulevard. After making a few other changes the councilmanic sub-committee yesterday recommended affirmatively the ordinance making a general change in the names of city streets. The ordinance, it is believed, will come up for final action at the next meeting of councils.
The name of Beechwood boulevard was changed to William Pitt boulevard; Grant boulevard to remain as at present. Other changes agreed upon were: Irwin avenue, Twenty-second ward, to be called Aylesboro avenue; Diamond, North, East and West Diamond, to be called Moody, Burd, Stobo and Weiser streets, after war heroes of the Northside, and Midway avenue and McClure avenue, in the Squirrel Hill district, changed to Morrowfield avenue, as requested by a resident of that thoroughfare.
