EXTENSION OF LAMBERT STREET IS COMPLETED
Subway 200 Feet Long Under Pennsylvania Railroad Tracks Is Part of Improvement.

East Liberty will soon have a new thoroughfare. The extension of Lambert street under the tracks of the Pennsylvania railroad to the driveway near East Liberty station is about completed. This will allow a crosstown outlet from the Frankstown avenue district to the Penn and Shady avenue section.

The tunnel under the tracks of the railroad is about 200 feet long. The grade of Lambert street was altered to allow for the subway, which was built entirely at the railroad company's cost. The company also dedicated a portion of the driveway to the city for use as a street in order to form a connecting link with Penn avenue. In return for the improvement the city permitted the railroad to abandon the bridge over the tracks at Putnam street which was a detriment to the railroad's right of way.
