From Pittsburgh Streets

Meeting of the Councils.—The Allegheny Councils met on Thursday evening.

Select Council.

In the Select Council, the minutes of the last meeting were read and adopted.

A petition relative to paving a portion of East Lane, between Bank Lane and Carpenter's Alley, was referred to the Street Committee.

Action concurred in by the Common Council.

A petition from citizens of Carroll street, praying for the extension of water pipes from Beaver to Webster street, was referred to the Water Committee.

Action concurred in by the Common Council.

A report of the Superintendant of the Water Works, favorable to retaining the watchman at the basin, was read and adopted.

It was resolved, That the Superintendant of the Water Works, be authorized to ascertain the expense of laying four and five inch pipes from the outer station of the Ohio and Pennsylvania railroad to the nearest connection with the city water pipes; and report at next meeting.

Action concurred in by the Common Council.

On motion, it was

Resolved, That the Committee on Markets be authorized to settle all difficulties between the Clerk of the market and stall renters.

Action concurred in by the Common Council.

A report from the Committee on Surveys, favorable to retaining the grade of Ridge street, was read.

Report accepted.

A resolution was also read and accepted, in favor of opening a forty feet street, including sidewalks, eleven feet wide, from Federal street, along the North Common, to Shanapin street, and laying out a forty feet street, including side walks eleven feet wide, in front of in-lots on the Commons, with the exception of Webster street, which has been already surveyed.

Mr. Moffit moved to amend the above resolution so as to make the streets on North Common, and on the in-lots, sixty feet wide, exclusive of side-walk, which is to be eleven feet wide.—Amendment accepted, and resolution passed.

Action concurred in by the Common Council.

A resolution was passed authorizing the Street Commissioners to procure plank for repairing canal bridges.

The pay roll of the Street Commissioner, for March, was read and accepted.

Mr. Painter presected [sic] a petition praying for the grading and paving of Bank lane, above the Aqueduct. Referred to Street Commissioner, with power to act.

Common Council.

The minutes of the last meeting were read and adopted.

A large number of bills, petitions, and resolutions passed in the Common Council, and were, with one exception, concurred in by the Select Council, as follows:

A petition, signed by a number of the citizens of the Third Ward, praying that the water pipes should be extended along Poplar alley.

Referred to the Committee on Streets.

A petition f roma [sic] number of the citizens of the Fourth Ward, praying for an appropriation for the purpose of putting Saw Mill alley, between Chesnut street and the saw mill in good order.

Referred to Street Committee.

heveral [sic] citizens of the Fourth Ward presented a petition relative to the grade of said street.—Also relative to filling up a pool of stagnant water.

Referred to Committee on Surveys.

A petition, praying for the erection of a fire plug at the corner of East Lane and Ohio street, was referred to the Committee on Streets.

[ . . . ] Diamond be thrown open to the accommodation of market wagons.

Referred to Committee on Markets.

Resolved, That the Committee on Streets be instructed to inquire into the expediency and cost of widening Bank Lane, between the Aqueduct and the Hand street bridge, to its proper width, thirty-three feet; and that said Committee report at the next meeting of the Councils.

The Mayor was authorized to draw his warrant for the sum of $39,55 in favor of the City Solicitor.

On motion, it was

Resolved, That the Committee on Engines and Hose be authorized to contract with the lowest and best bidder for 1000 feet of good leather hose, and that 500 feet be placed in the 3d and 4th Wards each, provided the same be considered city property.

Action not concurred in.

Resolved, That the City Treasurer be required, in receiving and paying out the poor tax, to conform strictly to the requirements of the ninth and tenth sections of the Act of April 9th, 1844.

Passed.
