Odessa Place is named for the city of Odessa in Ukraine, a port on the Black Sea.[1][2]

Its name was officially established as Odessa Alley by a Pittsburgh city ordinance in 1881.[3] It appears, unlabeled, in the 1882 Hopkins atlas[4] and in a plan of lots laid out for F. G. Hague that year;[5] Frederick Briggs' plan of lots, recorded in 1888, labels it Odessa Alley.[6] It was renamed Odessa Place in 1913.[7][1]
