Notes:Olympia Place

From Pittsburgh Streets

1913-04-22: Pittsburg Press, p. 30 (Newspapers.com 143388592): "SQUIRREL HILL. ¶ Olympia Place, near Forbes and Beeler sts. and Tech schools; 7-room bungalow, tile bath, hardwood throughout, beamed ceilings and paneled walls; enclosed porch, nice grounds; rent reasonable. ¶ SAMUEL W. BLACK CO., ¶ First National Bank Building. ¶ Will move to Farmers building May 1."

  • Note that Samuel W. Black laid out the Olympia Place plan in 1899 (Allegheny County Recorder of Deeds 3781517); this is an unrelated plan in Hazelwood.

1913-09-04: "City property exchanged for Latrobe home," Pittsburg Press, p. 4 (Newspapers.com 143396981): "Of the several exchange deals in which residence properties of the better class have figured during the week in the local realty market, one of the most pretentious was negotiated by the Kelly-Wood Real Estate Co., of Center and Highland aves., represented by C. C. Wilkins. By the terms of the transaction Wayland Rupert sold to Harry S. Morrow to new houses of the living room type, one in Beeler st., Fourteenth ward, and one in Olympia way, for $25,000. Mr. Morrow gave in part payment a 10-room residence in Latrobe, valued at $10,000."

  • Though note "Two houses are traded for another and cash," Pittsburgh Post, 1913-09-05, p. 9 (Newspapers.com 87971855): "The Kelly-Wood Real Estate Company, for instance, represented by C. C. Wilkins, sold for Wayland Rupert to Harry S. Morrow two newe houses, one in Beeler street, in the Squirrel Hill section and the other in Olympia way, in the South Hills, for $25,000, part payment for the same having been made by title to a place in Latrobe, which was accepted by Mr. Rupert at a valuation of $10,000." This is likely in error.
