1847-04-15: "SUPPLEMENT to an act entitled, 'An Act to authorize suit to be brought on the official bond of Wm. B. Mitchell, late superintendent,' passed sixteenth June, Anno Domini eighteen hundred and thirty-six" (Newspapers.com 88176650): "Sect. 5. That the Court of Quarter Sessions of the Peace of Allegheny Co. be, and the same is hereby authorized and empowered, upon application by petition, to appoint Viewers to view Katharine street, in the city of Pittsburgh, as the same is now located on the plan of the city district and adopted by said City, and on the report of said Viewers to vacate the whole or any part of said street, and if desired by the petitioners to substitute in lieu thereof, an alley or alleys, not less than twenty feet in width, running as nearly as may be, parallel to Bedford and Cliff streets, in said City, and extending from one cross street to another, and the said Court shall proceed therein in the same manner, in all respects, as is directed by the existing laws relating to roads and highways."
1852-08-26: W. G. McCartney, "Valuable real estate at auction," Daily Morning Post, [p. 3] (Newspapers.com 86645353): "VALUABLE REAL ESTATE at Auction.—Will be sold on the premises, on Saturday, August 28th, at 3 o'clock, P. M., a Lot of Ground, in the Seventh Ward, City of Pittsburgh, fronting 22 feet 6 inches on Bedford street, and extending back, preserving the same width, one hundred and twenty-three feet one inch, to Catharine alley. On which is erected two two story Brick Dwelling Houses, each of which will rent for Fifty Dollars a year. This is a desirable property, free from the smoke and dust of the crowded part of the city, combining all the advantages of a country residence, and within ten minutes' walk of the new Court House. 1855-03-31: Wm. Magill, "Sheriff's sales," Daily Pittsburgh Gazette, pp. 1–2 (Newspapers.com 86447613, 86447621): "And also, all the estate, right, title and interest of the said C. O. Loomis, of, in and to all the ground lying between the said lots, Nos. 28, 29 and 30 and lots Nos. 73, 74 and 75 in said Cook and Cassat's plan, which was formerly a part of Katharine street in said plan,—and which has been vacated by deed recorded in Deed Book L., 3d, page 20, said strip of ground having a width of fifty feet on Gum street and extending back preserving same width parallel with Cliff street, seventy five feet. ¶ Seized and taken in execution as the property of Cyrus O. Loomis at the suit of John Harper and Morrison Underwood."
