Arizona Alley appears in the 1890 Hopkins atlas, parallel to and north of Gifford Street.[1] It was named for the state of Arizona. Nearby streets named for states include California Avenue and Colorado Street; other alleys once included Iowa Alley (now part of Colorado Street) and Oregon Alley (later Overcliff Way).
Arizona Alley became Arizona Way in 1914 when a Pittsburgh city ordinance changed all alleys to ways.[2] It was vacated in 1966.[3]
