A road in the location of modern Lemington Avenue appears in maps of Allegheny County from 1851 and 1862.[1][2] It is labeled Lemington Street in the 1872 Hopkins atlas,[3] and this is the name that was established by a city ordinance in 1881.[4] However, the name Lemington Avenue was in use as early as 1874,[5] and this name was established by an ordinance in 1910.[6]
The street is named for Lemington, the estate of Samuel Chadwick, which was along modern Lemington Avenue south of Lincoln Avenue.[2][3]
