Freeport Road
Neighborhood Lincoln-Lemington-Belmar
Origin of name Freeport, Pennsylvania

Freeport Road, which passes through the small part of Lincoln-Lemington-Belmar north of the Allegheny River (encompassing the Waterworks Mall and UPMC St. Margaret), is so named because it leads to Freeport, about 29 miles upriver from the Point.[1]:159

Freeport was laid out in 1796 by William Todd and his son David Todd, who declared it to be a free port for all river traffic, without wharfage fees.[2][1]:59
