Hazlett Street
Neighborhood Northview Heights
Origin of name William Hazlett

Hazlett Street is named for William Hazlett (alternatively spelled Hazelett or Haslett), who had a house in the 1860s near what is today the eastern end of Hazlett Street.[1][2] He drew up a plan of lots on his land in Reserve Township, west of Spring Garden Avenue; today this area overlaps the eastern part of Northview Heights. Hazlett Street served as an entrance to this neighborhood.[3][4][5]

Bob Regan says that Hazlett Street is named for Theodore L. Hazlett, once the executive director of the Urban Redevelopment Authority.[6] But this cannot be the right person: this Hazlett was born in 1918,[7] but "Haslett Street" appears on maps as early as 1897.[5]
