Origin of name William George Hawkins

Hawkins Street is named for William George Hawkins, Pittsburgh judge. He was appointed associate judge of the Court of Common Pleas in 1845 but declined. In 1874 he became the first judge of the Orphans' Court when that court was separated from the Court of Common Pleas.[1][2][3][4]

Many sources call this street Hawkins Avenue, but all current street signs say Hawkins Street.
