Nobles Lane is named for the Noble family, early settlers who started a tavern here.

A road in the location of modern Nobles Lane appears in the 1851 map of Allegheny County by Sidney & Neff and S. McRea, with W. Noble's tavern near the top of the road.[1] In the 1862 map by S. N. and F. W. Beers, the old tavern is labeled "Nobles Hotel by J. Cronneworth," and the house of W. Noble Sr. is shown at the top of the road.[2] Maps from 1876 and 1883 show a small community named Noblesville laid out at the top of the road,[3][4] but it disappeared by 1886.[5]

The road is labeled Mill Run Road in the 1886 Hopkins atlas[5] and South View Avenue in the 1896 edition.[6] The 1905 edition shows that South View Avenue had been renamed Nobles Lane.[7]
