Branch Way was originally named Poplar Alley. It was changed to Branch Way by a city ordinance in 1930, the year after Lincoln Place was annexed into the City of Pittsburgh.[1]
A short unsigned alley, really just a gravel track, that meets Halchess Street at an angle near McBride Avenue is a disconnected part of Branch Way.[2] This is the original Branch Alley. It was also renamed Branch Way by the same ordinance.[1]
